Channel Access

The Channel Access Layer
This layer provides client-specific software to enable access to information systems. The Channel Access layer is accessible for all actor groups regardless of whether they are internal or external. In custom-specific architectures Channels are normally separated according to actor groups (i.e. External Portal, Internal Portal). By keeping channels within one layer the effect on the overall architecture is easier to see (i.e. re-use of same presentation services by different Channels).


The layer contains elements which have been grouped by ‘Client’-type. This grouping may be disputable in a given situation. As an example, from 2008 there has been a fast growth of Rich Client applications for use in Mobile devices. Also the list of channels is not exhaustive. Channel types can be added in the CORA when necessary, but the focus should be on the elements.
